The body of an unidentified man has been found in the bushes at Eshowe on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The man, who was about 40 years old, had been stabbed several times and his throat slit. He was spotted by a passer-by on Saturday.

Superintendent Jay Naicker said a resident was walking on a footpath in the Dlinza Forest when he saw the body.

"The man had been stabbed in the chest and his throat was slit, but no murder weapon was found on the scene," Naicker said.

"The victim was well dressed and had cash in his pocket, which indicated robbery was not the motive," he said.

The victim was wearing a red checked shirt, black jeans and brown shoes.

Police were questioning local residents to establish the victim's identity and called on anyone whose relative is missing or who might have information to contact the Eshowe police.
