A two-year-old baby was found abandoned near an old-age home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape last week.

A taxi driver discovered the abandoned baby in an open field near the Mdantsane's Ethembeni Old-Age Home.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mtati Tana said they were still searching for the child's parents.

"The child was sent to the NU1 police station in Mdantsane, but was later moved to Ward 17 at the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital for safe custody," said Tana.

He said the East London police were concerned because the baby was the second one found abandoned this year.

He said the first infant was found abandoned next to the Mdantsane Hotel in January.

"The eight-month-old baby was also sent to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital."

Anyone with information can contact their nearest police station.
