After an intensive investigation police yesterday arrested a suspect in connection with the Mafia-style killing of a Pretoria taxi boss two months ago.

Hosia Shime Sithole, popularly known as Brother, died in a hail of bullets while sitting with a friend in his luxury German car in Manaka Street, Atteridgeville, at about 6pm on June 23.

Head of Atteridgeville detectives Superintendent Lucky MC Motsepe yesterday confirmed that a suspect has been arrested " for questioning" in connection with Sithole's death.

Police also confirmed that an AK47 assault rifle had been used in the attack.

Motsepe said the suspect was arrested at about 9am yesterday.

She declined to confirm if the suspect was male or female, saying this would jeopardise police investigations.

Sithole was sitting with another taxi boss in his car when a red Sentra drove close by and without warning shots were fired from the car.

He died at the scene and his friend sustained minor injuries.

The getaway car was found abandoned in the township the following day.

Sithole was well-known in social circles.

He played for the defunct professional soccer-side Pretoria Callies in the 1970s.
