Andries Mojapelo was found guilty of shooting Louis Mothapo dead at a graduation party at a village in the Mothapo area outside Polokwane about two years ago.
Judge Francis Legodi said Mojapelo lied to the court when he said he killed Mothapo in self defence.
The judge denied an application by the defence for leave to appeal - both the conviction and sentence, the SABC reported.
