The Sebokeng Hostel community in the Vaal is reeling from shock after the sudden death of a dedicated, kind and hard-working police officer.
Jonas Malefetsane Motsapi, 46, who had a great sense of humour, will be sadly missed by not only his family, but by his colleagues, friends and many people around the Vaal in Gauteng.
Motsapi was popularly known as "Yes Sir" by colleagues, friends and most people who knew him.
Born on August 14 1960 in Sharpeville, he started his primary education in 1967, and went on to Moahlodi Secondary School in Sharpeville until Std 9. He matriculated at Naledi High School in Soweto.
He started his working life in 1988. He also worked as a security guard at Volkskas Bank.
Motsapi later joined the SAPS. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was stationed at Sebokeng Police Station.
In 1994, he joined the former Vereeniging town council as a guard. In 2002 he studied for a traffic officers' course in Pretoria and worked as a traffic officer for Emfuleni Local Municipality. The dedicated Motsapi was placed on specialised units such as speed section, highway patrol and the CCTV.
He died on August 10, only four days before his 47th birthday.
He underwent an operation on July 30 at the Sebokeng Hospital, but complications set in.
He was married to the late Lydia Motsapi with whom he had five children who survive him together with four sister, a brother and four grandchildren.
The service will be held tomorrow at 8am at Mphalalatsane Hall, Sebokeng. He will be buried at Evaton Cemetery at 11am.
