The 2007/2008 SAB Regional League season, under the auspices of Safa Ekurhuleni, kicks off at various venues on Saturday.

This was announced yesterday by Joseph Matiea, Safa Ekurhuleni's deputy president, who added that 16 teams would compete in the regional league.

Matiea believes this year's league is expected to produce fireworks because all teams will be determined to emulate African All Stars from Tsakane.

All Stars gained promotion to the Vodacom League this season.

Matiea said Vosloo United were demoted to the Metropolitan League, while Benoni Spurs and Kempton Park's Abakah FC were promoted to the regional league.

Juventus FC from Reiger Park were the last team to be promoted to the Vodacom League from this region in 2004.

Munich of Katlehong and Manchester United of Wattville are among the hot contenders for this season's league title because of their winning records towards the closing stages of last season.

Interestingly, both teams clash in their opener at Boksburg City Stadium on Saturday at 1pm.

Other games:

Tomorrow: Collins v Sun United (Actonville).

Saturday: Movers v Watford Seam (Brakpan); Ama Ten Ten v Abakah (Mehlareng); Spurs v Villa Espanol (Actonville); Best GC v Tembisa Black Pirates (Brakpan); East Rand v Papadi Master (KwaThema).

Sunday: Juventus v New Jack City (WJ Clement).
