Soccer enthusiasts in Soweto and surroundings areas are bracing themselves for another humdinger in the form of the Clinix Stix Morewa Soccer Challenge finals billed for the Klipspruit-Pimville Development Centre on Sunday.

This comes hardly a week after a big crowd witnessed the electrifying and successful SuperSport Under-19 Cup tournament hosted by Safa Soweto at the same venue last weekend.

Platinum Stars beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 in that final.

Phil "Chippa" Mogodi, Safa Soweto chairman, said the tournament, which is in honour of the late Safa boss Stix Morewa, started in mid-May with 84 junior teams and 232 seniors.

Said Mogodi: "The objective of the tournament is to emphasise the need concerning the development of football at grassroots level.

"It is also to celebrate the ideas of "Bra Stix" and the South African Football Association to develop coaches, administrators and the standard of football at the lower level.''

Mogodi urged the community, friends and ex-players to come in droves to support the maiden tournament.

The finals of the Under-11s and Under-17s will be played from 11am, while Umkomaas engage CWJ Hungry Stars in the seniors at 2pm.

The winners in the seniors category will pocket R10000, gold medals and a trophy.
