Destroying ATMs with explosive devices solely to draw the government's attention to the plight of the unemployed is a criminal offence.

Destroying ATMs with explosive devices solely to draw the government's attention to the plight of the unemployed is a criminal offence.

Thus the brazen claim by Plaatjie Mashego, a former MK operative, that his group - the Malamulela Social Movement of the Unemployed - was responsible for a spate of ATM bombings across the country should be taken seriously by the police.

It is the sheer audacity of Mashego and his ilk in going public about their criminal activities that alarms us. Here is someone cocking the snook at the government and police without regard for the consequences of alleged banditry.

Mashego and his group should be arrested and charged for their dastardly deeds.
