The Atteridgeville/Saulsville Sports Council is marking Women's Month in style, by hosting a sport's day festival on August 25.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Tshwane Metro Atteridgeville Sports Office, and will take place at the Mbolekwa Sports Complex.

According to the council's public relations officer, Precious Selomane, the games are used to acknowledge the contributions made by women in the community, and will help create and sustain the development of sport in the greater Tshwane area.

"One of our objectives as a sports council is to recognise and uphold all that is positive about our women, and in the process empower them," Selomane said.

More than 400 expected participants will take part in football, basketball, table tennis, tennis, aerobics, volleyball and softball matches on the day.

"We want to avoid it being just a one-off event. With the support of the relevant authorities and enthusiasm from the community, this could be a yearly thing," Selomane said.

Sporting codes must send at least two delegates to a plenary at Super Stadium tomorrow at 6pm.
