Principals, teachers and pupils must organise themselves well when they play the Smart Young Mindz competition. The rules of the competition call for the appointing of people to strategic positions.
The positions are for a project manager or coordinator, an accountant, mechanical engineer, structural engineer, public relations and- or marketing manager.
Pupils are also introduced to tertiary education and the working environment in a fun-filled and interactive manner.
l The project managers or coordinators are the overall time and resources managers and handle areas such as human resources and draw a flow chart to plan the progress of the project.
l The accountants are expected to draw up and monitor the budget, in consultation with the engineers and public relations or marketing managers.
l The mechanical engineers are expected to lead design modifications to the groups' transportation vehicles to ensure accessibility for the physically challenged, using tools such as systems diagrams, orthographic drawing plans and scale models.
l The structural engineers have the task of designing modifications to stadiums to ensure accessibility for the physically challenged, by drawing appropriate building plans and building scale models that would be easy to comprehend and implement.
l The public relations and or marketing managers are expected to design and develop advertising campaigns and to market their service to the projects' prospective beneficiaries.
Prizes for the top three schools that win the Smart Young Mindz competition, that is due to be announced in October, are:
l A whopping R30000 (R20000 for the school and R10000 for the pupils - at R2000 each);
l A total of R20000 (R15000 for the school and R5000 for the pupils - at R1000 each);
l And the third prize is R10000 (R7500 for the school and R2500 for the pupils - at R500 each).
