The Limpopo government aims to improve the dissemination of information to communities relating to plans for service delivery.
The government hopes this would help curb protests that have hit the province.
Addressing the media following the executive council lekgotla, Premier Sello Moloto said his cabinet noted the challenges around the delivery of basic services in some of the municipalities.
"Most of the issues our people are raising are indeed genuine and that they need satisfactory responses to these issues cannot be over-emphasised.
"We also acknowledge the right of our people to protest and raise issues that impact on their livelihoods," Moloto said.
Moloto was quick to point out that his administration's acknowledgement of service delivery problems did not condone the use of violence during protests.
"Although there is no universal account for the cause of these protests, we believe some of these acts are caused by lack of information on the plans and programmes of municipalities. Exco has resolved to ensure that there will be constant and direct interaction between our communities, councillors and community development workers," Moloto said.
Owing to the urgency of the matter, they had decided to do away with the bureaucratic channels and were going to encourage councillors to directly report to their respective mayors should they pick up problems in their communities.
"Should the mayors fail to address the problems, councillors can then report directly to the premier's office as this would help curb the community protests," he said.
Priorities identified by the executivexco for the 2008/09 financial year include:
l the acceleration of rolling out Thusong Service Centres to bring government closer to the people;
l the review and implementation of the integrated socio-economic infrastructure framework;
l investment in air and road infrastructure and rehabilitating the rail network in preparation for 2010;
l an aggressive implementation of government's HIV-Aids plan;
l the consolidation of poverty alleviation projects; and
l the building of capacity of municipalities to provide basic services.
