Reigning Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns want to successfully defend their title this season and also win a domestic cup.
This was said by coach Gordon Igesund after his side booked a berth in the semifinals of the lucrative SAA Supa 8 after thrashing Bloemfontein Celtic 4-1 in the quarterfinals at Loftus on Saturday.
An excited Igesund said his charges played the way he expected them to perform.
He further said the players displayed an outstanding performance, were patient in their approach and also kept their shape.
"They played with guts, commitment and a positive attitude,'' said a relieved Igesund, who was under pressure following his team's embarrassing 0-4 defeat to Club Sportif Sfaxien in Tunisia last week.
On the question of retaining the league title, Igesund responded: "Of course, we want to retain the championship and win a domestic cup.''
He added that he needed three to four quality players "to make the team stronger''.
His counterpart Khabo Zondo said he was disappointed after they lifted the Telkom Charity Cup title in Mmabatho, North West last weekend.
"In the early stages we could not deal with their ball possession. Some of the players froze under pressure and that killed us.
"We also over-respected them,'' said Zondo, who added that Sundowns were good on the day.
Sundowns' new recruits, former Orlando Pirates' Gift Leremi and erstwhile Jomo Cosmos' defender Shere Lekgothoane fitted like a glove.
The other player who caught the eye of Sundowns' supporters was Brent Carelse, whose crisp passes were a marvel to watch in the middle of the park.
Sundowns shot to a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Manqoba Ngwenya provided a pass to Vuyo Mere who off-oaded it to Surprise Moriri who beat Postnet Omony to open the account.
Twelve minutes later Benson Mhlongo made it 2-0 for Sundowns and Leremi's strike past Omony two minutes before half time extended the score to 3-0.
Celtic pulled one goal back through Petrus Mahlatsi in the 46th minute but Manqoba dashed Phunya Sele Sele's hopes with a diving header in the 62nd minute to make the final score 4-1.
