It's all systems go for the ground- breaking all-female professional boxing tournament which will take place at the International Convention Centre in Durban on Friday night.

All eight participants, five from South Africa and three from Brazil, will make their professional debuts in this maiden women's tournament called "Umemulo".

They have all been declared fit to box. Their pregnancy results came out immediately after their pre-fight medical.

Boxing SA's publicist, who witnessed the proceedings at Nasrec, said he thought results would come out a day or two later.

The weigh-in was conducted yesterday by Violet Magwca.

Featherweight Unathi Myekeni and welterweight Nonie Tenge (both from East London) will collide with Michelle Larissa Boanssoli and Juliana Werner de Arguiar, respectively.

Dorothy Cloete from Cape Town faces Addrianna Zanella in the bantamweight division.

All three fights will take place over six rounds.

There will also be a local shootout over four rounds between Sandra Leigh Almeida and Bomekazi Klaas from East London in the middleweight class.

Each round will be two minutes long. SABC will broadcast all the bouts live on Blow by Blow at 10pm.

The tournament will be promoted jointly by women promoters Mbali Zantsi of Showtime Promotions and Kenosi Mlabateki of Rams Promotions.

It is Boxing SA's pilot project aimed at testing the strength of women boxers in South Africa.

It is also a belated Women's Day celebration.
