Municipalities 'give RDP houses'

Local municipalities are responsible for allocating RDP houses.

National Housing spokesman Monwabisi Maclean yesterday said his department allocated budgets to the provinces, which, in turn allocate projects to local government departments.

"Municipalities are closest to local communities. Provincial governments have authority over projects because they provide the money," Maclean said.

He said select presidential projects were handled by the national Department of Housing, which appointed its own project managers.
