Get credit bureaus off your back

Consumers who have not paid outstanding judgments below R50000, have until the end of August to do so.

Consumers who have not paid outstanding judgments below R50000, have until the end of August to do so.

If paid, consumers will have such information removed from their credit profile. Unlike in the past, this information will not be left hanging on the consumers' records for a further five years.

There also will be no need to approach the courts to rescind such judgment if they pay before Spring day. The Credit Information Ombud, Manie van Schalkwyk, said the removal of adverse listings of R500 or less and accounts that have been dormant, has been completed.

To qualify, the amount you owe must be below R50000 and the judgment must have been taken before September 1 last year.

For relief, go to the credit provider that has a judgment against you and pay off that account before the end of this month. Then supply your proof of payment to the credit bureau who will verify the document and remove the judgment information from your credit profile. Call 086-066-2837 or visit Ombud@creditombud.org.za for more valuable information.
