The name Zodwa Khoza will be immortalised through a soccer tournament to be known as the Philips Zodwa Khoza Memorial Cup to be played yearly in Soweto.

The inaugural competition will be staged at the White City swimming grounds tomorrow to celebrate Women's Day.

The event is the brainchild of Safa Soweto and Philips SA with the blessing of the Khoza family.

The tournament will be held in honour of the late Orlando Pirates brand manager Zodwa Khoza, daughter of club chairman Irvin Khoza, who died last year.

The four women's teams that will take part are Soweto Ladies, Fabulous Ladies from Chiawelo, Pimville All Stars and Parma from Mohlakeng.

Philip "Chippa'' Mogodi, Safa Soweto chairman, said: "We are happy that the Khoza family gave us the go-ahead to name the tournament after their daughter (Zodwa).

"Zodwa actively played an important role in changing the face of football when it comes to branding,'' said Mogodi.

Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise, who started her football career in Soweto, will also be honoured. Modise now plies her trade in Denmark.

" I am appealing to all women in Soweto to come in big numbers to support the tournament and enjoy themselves,'' said Mogodi.

Soweto Ladies engage Stars while in the other game Fabulous come up against Parma. Both games start at 9am.

The winner will pocket R10000, a trophy and gold medals. The runners-up will get R5000 and the third prize is bronze medals.
