Suspended teacher and leader of Khutsong residents in Carletonville, Jomo Mogale, told a DA Member of Parliament Motlatjo Thetjeng that the ANC had betrayed its people.
During a visit to the township yesterday, Thetjeng told Mogale that several suspended teachers and a policeman had been requested by DA leader Helen Zille to come to the area to establish facts about the situation.
"Jomo, I am not here to ask you to join the DA, but if you would like to join you will be welcome," said Thetjeng.
Mogale responded by promising to give Thetjeng an SACP membership form before he left the township.
"I am a communist and like many others we were hopeful during the congress in Port Elizabeth that a decision would be taken to split from the ANC. The ANC has betrayed us," said Mogale.
Thetjeng said the DA strongly believed that the problem of Khutsong was political.
"We will tell the ANC in parliament to allow the people of Khutsong to remain in Gauteng until all parties find an agreement," said Thetjeng.
In an interview, a police officer Joshua Kadi, who was fired after 20 years' service, said he was fired because he is a neighbour and friend of Mogale.
