Generations star, Sophie Ndaba, who plays Queen Moroka in the soapie, has urged young women to work hard to achieve the best results they can.
Ndaba was speaking at the Hlogotlou Stadium in Monsterlus, Sekhukhune, in Limpopo, at the weekend.
The event was part of the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality's (GSDM) activities for women's month.
The event started with a visit to the graves of the struggle heroines in the area.
"We need a society that is proud of itself and its culture," said Ndaba.
"It will be good if young people in particular can follow the good examples laid by the past leaders and take forward the democratic gains."
As she took to the podium, hundreds of people who attended the event took pictures of her with their cellphone cameras.
Ndaba was granted a praise name - Pheladi-a-Gobetse - and received a gift of a blanket from the area's women.
Provincial local government and housing MEC Maite Nkoana- Mashabane and GSDM mayors attended the event.
Dickson Masemola, executive mayor of the GSDM, said Sekhukhune was proud of its heroines who took part in the struggle against apartheid.
Masemola visited and laid wreaths on the graves of Manche Masemola and Mmadinoge Kgoloko.
Manche and Mmadinoge are among the women stalwarts who took part in the struggle.
"We are continuing throughout the month with visits to the graves of our local struggle heroines to lay wreaths," said Masemola.
"We are doing this to honour our heroines for their hard work and dedication which resulted in our freedom from the former apartheid government."
