Pheko plans to fight

Former Pan-Africanist Congress president Motsoko Pheko gave notice of his intention to interdict the party from replacing him in Parliament yesterday.

This latest development comes after the Johannesburg High Court on Friday dismissed his application to have his expulsion from the party reversed.

Party spokesman Mudini Maivha yesterday said "suspicions that Pheko intends to cross the floor were reasonable, given his intentions to interdict the party."

Maivha said the PAC was aware that Pheko is in the process of filing papers in the Cape High Court opposing his expulsion from Parliament.

"It is clear that he is acting in his personal interest," he said.

Pheko was fired from the party last month for not disclosing transactions of the Sobukwe Foundation during his term of office. During his term, two payments of R150 000 were deposited into the foundation by Absa Bank.

Pheko was yesterday not available for comment.
