A new centre to address the high levels of rape, abuse and violence in Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu has been launched at Phoenix, north of Durban.

A new centre to address the high levels of rape, abuse and violence in Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu has been launched at Phoenix, north of Durban.

The R2,2million Thuthuzela Care Centre, sponsored by Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, is part of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Trained personnel will help victims of crime, rape and other abuse.

Health department MEC Neliswa Nkonyeni said: "Many victims feel their lives have been shattered and their psychological and physical privacy has been invaded. The emotional scars can take months to heal." - Mary Papayya
