Candy "N'waingwani" Mokoena, the traditional Tsonga disco queen, has released a new album which is destined to consolidate her career as a solo artist.
Released on Friday, and available at leading CD shops, this is her third album as a solo artist and the first to be released by independent label Moseketi Records.
Candy says the album, called My Style, is helping to consolidate her hold on the disco music market. The lyrics are in Xitsonga, Sesotho and isiZulu.
"After performing as part of the Shaka Bundu Girls for years, I helped define a certain disco sound that deve- loped a solid following on the scene, particularly Shangaan disco," Candy said.
"It is the same market that is now embracing my style of disco as a solo artist. Already Jozi FM and Munghanan Lonene FM are playing the album frequently thanks to requests from the listeners.
"The album takes disco music fans down memory lane."
Candy, who co-owns Moseketi Records with businessman Emeka Nwachukwu, is a songwriter, vocalist and performer who, among others, has performed with Oskido, Peta Teanet and Penny Penny.
