Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has urged women to make a mark and write their own history.
Mlambo-Ngcuka was addressing a public meeting in Frankfort, Free State, where she opened an orphanage in Namahadi township.
She said: "As women we should write our own history of this generation in this era, just like the women of 1955 did."
The deputy president said municipalities should render services to the public.
"Municipal managers who don't deliver give us problems. But we should applaud those who are doing a good job."
She also lauded women who were taking care of orphaned children.
"Every child deserves a warm home," she said.
Mlambo-Ngcuka acknowledged the Mafube Local Municipality for building an orphanage in Muhammad, another township in Frankfort.
Mlambo-Ngcuka said men should take a leaf from ANC Free State chairman Ace Magashule's book. Magashule "is taking care of orphans and abandoned children in this province. We need more men like him". Magashule has so far helped build three orphanages in the province.
