When his father died Mazibuko was only nine years old. His mother moved to Newcastle, KwaZulu- Natal. Later they settled in Sophiatown in Johannesburg.
He trained as a teacher at Marianhill Teachers Training Institution, where his musical talent was discovered.
After qualifying, he taught at St Louis Bertrans School in Newcastle.
Working as a teacher and choral music conductor, he married Sophie NN Msimang in Sophiatown in 1944. They were blessed with three children - Gugu, Nonhlanhla and Vusi.
While working as a teacher and conductor at Donaldson Primary School in Soweto, he conducted the Jabavu Choristers, which became the Johannesburg Teachers Choir in 1969.
Mazibuko also formed the Soweto Teachers Choir. While teaching at Ndondo Primary School in Soweto, he became a force in choral music.
In addition to his numerous achievements and trophies from various choral eisteddfods, Mazibuko taught music. He retired as principal of Ndondo in 1986.
The Soweto Teachers Choir represented South Africa, and won the first Ford Choirs Contest in 1979.
In 1983 the choir represented South Africa in the International Eisteddfod in Wales and won the traditional music category. In the same year, Wits University awarded Mazibuko an honorary masters degree in music for his contribution to choral music.
Mazibuko conducted for the last time in 1996 at the SAB-Sacma Eisteddfod in Johannesburg at the age of 79. He died in March 1997.
