Teams bank on own colours to win event
Which colours are going to dominate at the Telkom Charity Cup in Mmabatho tomorrow?
The four clubs' representatives all believe that their respective colours will be visible in the yearly tournament.
Thamaga Mokgophi, Platinum Stars manager, whose side won the inaugural Telkom Cup last season, said since they relocated to the North West, most of the people in that province were behind them.
"We've made some concerted effort to see to it that the red and white colours should dominate. Being hosts of this tournament we've worked hard in the past four weeks to garner support and we're going to be visible tomorrow," he said.
Saddam Maake, Kaizer Chiefs' former No 1 supporter, said: "It'll be black and gold. We'll be in Mmabatho as early as 8am, and if other teams' supporters have not arrived, then we'll fill the stands, and they will watch the game from outside the stadium."
Orlando Pirates' national supporters chairman Johannes "Mzion" Mofokeng said it will be black and white all the way.
"Our team is playing well. We're determined to beat Celtic on the stands with singing and everybody else on the field. Black and white will dominate on the day," he said.
Bloemfontein Celtic PRO, Sello Nduna, whose major support is mostly home-based, is optimistic that their supporters will be more than the other three sides' fans.
"Buses will be leaving Bloemfontein and other parts of the Free State on Friday night for Mmabatho.
"We have about 100 buses. The package is R190 and that includes an entry ticket. It will be green and white only and we'll be singing from start to finish."
It is understandable what the club's representatives are saying about their respective sides.
But if the playing fields were levelled, then Chiefs would have been the team to dominate, but after their four pre-seaon successive defeats to Moroka Swallows, Black Leopards, Tottenham Hotspur and Orlando Pirates, their supporters are not likely to be at the tournament in large numbers.
The Buccaneers are most likely to have one of the biggest followers on the day because they have signed up quality players such as Teko Modise, Destin Makita, Josephy Kamwendo, Ralph Matema and Mlungisi Gumbi. They have also beaten Chiefs in a derby played in Port Elizabeth recently.
