Mmabatho, the capital of North West, will be abuzz with excitement and activities ranging from the Telkom Charity Cup to duels of DJs this weekend.

But the safety of residents during the events has become an issue for some.

Thabang Modikoe of Mmabatho has appealed to Premier Edna Molewa and the executive mayor of the central district, Themba Gwabeni to deploy traffic officers, police and even members of the Defence Force to maintain law and order for the duration of festivities.

Modikoe said some people were considering leaving Mmabatho for the weekend and only returning after the festivities.

Molewa has made an assurance that security would be provided and urged people to enjoy themselves during the weekend. "We have a clear plan to control the masses that will be here during the weekend," said Molewa.

However, Molewa also called on people who have planned to hold functions to have adequate security where the functions will be held.

Mmbatho police spokesman, Sabata Mokgwaabone, advised people to leave their firearms at home because there would be no provision for their safe storage.

"I want to make it clear that no squeeze bottles or any other bottles of any kind will be allowed inside the stadium," said Mokgwaabone.
