The "father" of the 23 goats stolen from Ekuvukeni, Ladysmith in northern KwaZulu-Natal, says his prized possessions are safely back home, thanks to Sowetan.
The 23 goats were reunited with their owner late yesterday afternoon after their "father" saw their picture on Sowetan's front page. The goats were rescued by police on Tuesday morning after they were found squashed inside a minibus taxi. They were taken to a local pound.
Orange Farm taxi driver Muntukabuzwa Duze says he saw his goats on the front page of Sowetan after being alerted by his boss.
"My wife told me that our goats were stolen and I told my boss. He told me that Sowetan had a story about goats being squashed in a taxi and that I should get the newspaper.
"I did and could instantly tell they were my animals. I alerted my wife and she contacted the police.
"Thank you. Thank you, Sowetan. Words cannot express my happiness. I am happy that my goats were saved from being slaughtered," said Duze.
He said he was extremely indebted to Sowetan and the police for the safe return of his animals. The goats were yesterday afternoon reunited with their "mother" Zwakele Duze.
"I am happy that they are back home," she said.
