Shayamoya shock

Residents of Shayamoya in Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal have been shocked by the fatal stabbing of two people.

The victims, including six people who were injured, were all returning from adult school on Tuesday night when they were attacked by unknown robbers.

The names of the dead victims have not yet been released.

Shayamoya has a reputation for being one of the most violent townships in Kokstad, with murders topping the list.

The scene of the latest killings is a notorious spot for violent attacks.

Last year, police discovered several bodies at the same spot. The victims had either been stabbed or beaten up.

Thulani Nkitha, a local resident, went missing last year and his body was found near a dumping site after locals spotted pigs feeding on human remains.

Councillor Willem Bhengu has called for stronger police action, including establishing a satellite police station in the township to help curb the crime

Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
