There will be tension galore when the quarterfinal draw for the inaugural Kathorus' Senzakonke High Schools Challenge is conducted in Benoni tomorrow.

Four schools from Katlehong, two each from Thokoza and Vosloorus, will go into the hat in soccer and netball.

Contestants in football are Fumana, Alafang, Katlehong, Mpontsheng, Eden Park, Buhlebuzile, Illinge and Erasmus Monareng.

In netball Fumana, Katlehong, Alafang, Sijabulile, Edenpark, Buhlebuzile, Monareng and Masithwalisane will fight it out.

Several experts believe both Fumana (soccer) and Alafang (netball) are teams to avoid in tomorrow's draw because of their clean record in the elimination stages.

Fumana kept their unbeaten run intact in eight games while Alafang won four and drew one from five matches.

Other good school soccer teams likely to give Fumana a stiff challenge are Vosloorus' Illinge and Buhlebuzile from Thokoza.

Coordinator Themba Buthelezi said the tournament, dubbed "Sporting in Winter'', kicked-off in mid-April with the intention of keeping youth away from bad deeds.

The event was jointly organised by school committees from the three areas (Kathorus).

The tournament is bankrolled by the Katlehong-based Senzakonke cleaning company to the tune of R50 000 for a period of three years, said Buthelezi.

The quarterfinals are set for August 8 while the semifinals and the final will be staged on August 15 and August 25 respectively, said Buthelezi yesterday.
