Hair dresser Lourenco Eric Ngoveni, 30, and Mandla Ephraim Zulu, 46, a sangoma, appeared on a charge of murdering four-year-old Connie Ncube in February last year.
The case was postponed two months ago to yesterday to allow the Department of Public Prosecutions time to compile a formal indictment and set a date for the men's high court appearance.
The two were arrested in December after Ncube's badly mutilated body was found in a river. Her one little finger, eye lids, lips, nipples and other body parts had been cut off.
During the accused's earlier bail application, the court heard that police only made a breakthrough after a witness claimed to have seen Zulu handing Ngoveni a briefcase with body parts in it. Ngoveni apparently wanted muti to make his new hair salon business to be successful.
Police then demolished the salon and found what is believed to have been human body parts between the bricks.
The court denied the two men bail in March this year, claiming it was for their own safety.
In addition, the unnamed witness could also be in danger as the person was known to at least one of the accused.
Magistrate Estelle van Biljon also took into account another murder and kidnapping case pending against Ngoveni, while she felt Zulu contradicted himself too often when he testified during the bail application. - Sapa
