North West MEC for transport, roads and community safety, Phenye Vilakazi has warned pedestrians and motorists against being careless on the road in order to reduce accidents.

Vilakazi said this after a school teacher and her daughter died in a road traffic accident last Monday.

Tebogo Murule, 42, a school teacher at Phetlhu Middle School and her 14-year-old daughter, Dineo, were killed instantly when their Opel Corsa collided with a bus on the Lomanyaneng-Vryburg road.

Police spokesman Captain Sabata Mokgwaabone said Murule wanted to avoid a pedestrian who was crossing the road but ended up colliding with the bus.

"One passenger was treated for slight injuries and later discharged from hospital while the bus driver was treated for shock," said Mokgwaabone. - Elisha Molefe
