As the Y-Generation moves into the spotlight, the need for maintenance and networking as well as PC support is rapidly increasing.

Company information systems require vast amounts of technical equipment and hardware to support and maintain the increasing information overload.

The need for PC and Internet engineers to build information technology systems that can handle the increased information and communication flow is on the rise.

This is according to Adrian Quinlivan, managing director of College Campus, a trading division of The Independent Institute of Education, a wholly owned subsidiary of ADvTECH, which is listed on the JSE.

"The popularity of our two- year, full-time Diploma in Information Technology: Networking is consistent with the demand for skills in this sector.

"This programme successfully prepares students interested in pursuing a career as an IT technician, help desk analyst, network administrator, network engineer or perhaps a systems engineer for the real world of work.

"It's ideal for hands-on individuals interested in computer components, the technical operation of networks, the Internet and computer engineering," he said.

Another popular programme is the two-year, full-time Diploma in Accounting and Financial Computing.

This programme is widely recognised and bears witness to the booming economy.

"Business ventures and plans fail because the financial implications were not clearly understood or accounted for. Companies depend on their employees to be proficient in all aspects of finance,"said Quinlivan.
