Police in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a domestic worker and a theft case. Lina Xaba, 40, was strangled with an electric cord during a robbery at her employer's house last week.

The three suspects are also accused of stealing property valued at R26000, including cameras, DVDs, amplifiers and cameras. Police spokesman Shooz Magudulela said police recovered the stolen goods when they arrested the suspects.

He said the suspects, including a 16-year-old teenager, appeared in the Newcastle magistrates' court yesterday.

They were remanded in custody and will appear again on Friday. In another incident in Newcastle, police yesterday arrested four men who tried to defraud a car dealership.

The men, who allegedly tried to buy a luxury car with a fraudulent cheque, were arrested shortly before the vehicle was handed over to them.

The four men appeared in court yesterday and were remanded in custody.
