Chikane forgave but the law must be applied

The NPA or the Reverend Frank Chikane opening an attempted murder case against Adriaan Vlok and Johann van der Merwe has nothing to do with reconciliation.

The NPA or the Reverend Frank Chikane opening an attempted murder case against Adriaan Vlok and Johann van der Merwe has nothing to do with reconciliation.

People should understand that though Chikane has forgiven Vlok and reconciled with him, Vlok could still be found guilty in court. In fact, Chikane is only an example because there could be other people out there who Vlok and his gang also tried to murder.

If Vlok was genuine in his apology, facing the law would prove that he is genuinely sorry and is prepared to go a step further in cleansing his soul, and in closing that horrible chapter.

Remember, by facing the law, Vlok and Van der Merwe are not necessarily going to be jailed.

We also need to look carefully at reconciliation in South Africa. I believe black people were and are still under attack. Black people are the ones who talk and who extend the hand of reconciliation to those people who made them suffer.

I don't think the perpetrators are interested in reconciling with us, the victims. So why are we concerned about people who are not interested in truly reconciling with us? Why should we beg them if they do not want to reconcile with us? We, black people, need to have our pride restored because we deserve it.
