The Department of Water Affairs and Forestry in Limpopo has unveiled plans to build another multimillion-rand dam at Dzumeri, outside Giyani.

The department is expected to meet relevant stakeholders in Giyani today. Spokesman Leah Matlala said plans for the dam were already at an advanced stage after earlier consultations.

This will be the second dam to be constructed in the province since the government started with construction on the first one in Sekhukhune.

The use of water has increased in the province while dam levels have kept dropping because their capacity has not been increased.

Villagers near where the dam will be built said they welcomed the project.
