The case against four Mozambican nationals accused of being part of the gang that robbed a Pick 'n Pay store in Honeydew last year and later killed four policemen in the notorious Jeppestown shootout has been withdrawn.
The charges against the four suspects were withdrawn in the Roodepoort magistrates' court last week. The state could not find substantial evidence to prosecute them for robbery and murder.
On Friday, 13 accused, including a chain-store employee, briefly appeared in court.
They face 21 charges including robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder, murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The case was postponed to January 28 next year for trial in the Johannesburg high court.
Mary Maleke, a chain-store employee, may also face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravated circumstances.
Maleke allegedly tipped off the gang during their preparation to rob a Pick 'n Pay store in June last year.
