A 33-year-old man, who repeatedly stabbed a prosecutor while robbing her of her cellphone, will be sentenced in the Pretoria high court today.

Sipho Mnisi, a car guard, was convicted of robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder for attacking control prosecutor Marisa Booyse in her office at the Pretoria magistrates' court last September.

The sentencing was rolled over to today "due to oversight on the part of the court", Judge Tholi Vilakazi said yesterday.

He said he would only be in a position to hand down a sentence today.

The state has argued for a life sentence as he attacked Booyse at a venue where she was surrounded by police.

This showed Mnisi had no respect for the law, state prosecutor Andre Fourie said.

The judge also said Mnisi could have foreseen that Booyse may have died when he stabbed her 11 times.

Booyse lost partial use of her right hand as the result of the attack and had to receive intensive counselling to cope with and overcome the trauma. - Sapa
