Police in Mamelodi, Pretoria, have made a breakthrough in two serious crime cases involving murder and a cash-in-transit heist.

Members of the Mamelodi East tracing unit yesterday arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a failed cash-in-transit heist in the township.

They recovered two stolen shotguns and two pistols.

The botched heist took place at the Mamelodi East BP Garage on Monday.

Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the police raided a house in Extension 16, Mamelodi East, and apprehended a man suspected to have been involved in several other robberies in the area.

In another incident, Mamelodi police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the murder of Piet Visagie, 25, of Oukasie in Brits, who was stabbed to death with a sharp object in December 2005.
