Stars to shine at festival

This year's Arts Alive, a yearly Johannesburg arts festival, features top artists from Africa and abroad who will perform at the event in September.

The festival which was launched yesterday in Johannesburg, will feature different art genres, such as visual arts, poetry, theatre, comedy, music, film and puppetry.

The first week of the festival will open with music performances by Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and the Miagi Orchestra, and bassist Carlo Mombelli at the Bassline in Johannesburg.

This year there will also be an exhibition of Indian textiles and a visual art exhibition at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.

The popular Arts Alive's jazz festival, Jazz on the Lake, will feature artists such as Sibongile Khumalo, Feya Faku and Bheki Khoza.

Various dance companies and individuals will perform at different venues on the second week of the event. Dancers from the Netherlands, France and Indian will also participate.

Other international stars who will perform during the month-long art festival, include Mory Kante from Guinea, Frederic Galliano from France and top international DJ, Gilles Petersen from Brazil.
