Frederick Mokgalaka, the coach of Selwane Sundowns, has commended the organisers of Mopani District Municipality for giving the Limpopo amateur team a chance to play in the yearly soccer tournament.

Sundowns, who are campaigning in the SAB Regional League in the Mopani district, are part of the one-day four-team Mopani district executive mayor's charity cup on Sunday.

Castle Premiership campaigners SuperSport United, Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards are the other three clubs that will take part in the event, to be staged at Giyani Stadium. Lidoda Duvha take on Ezenkosi in the first match at 10am and Sundowns face United at noon.

Spectators will also be entertained by the Mopani district team that will meet the SABC Limpopo squad at 2pm. The final will be played at 4pm.

Mokgalaka also stressed that playing in the tournament would motivate their players for the new season.

"The players will be highly motivated and encouraged by rubbing shoulders with professional players on the day," said the Sundowns mentor, who also played for the team.

"Everyone is gearing himself up for the match on Sunday and I have warned the players not to be threatened by the status of their opponents," he said.

The matches are part of the many off-season events which are being used by coaches of Premiership clubs to assess new players and also try to get right combinations in different departments.

The team that wins on Sunday will get R100000, gold medals and a floating trophy.

The runners-up will pocket R50000 and silver medals, while the clubs that finish third and fourth will each receive R30000.

Tickets for the tournament will be available at Spar stores in Giyani at R20 for adults and R10 for juveniles.
