The mother of Tupac Shakur, Amur, is fighting to prevent his former label from selling previously unreleased tracks in an effort to settle Death Row Records' bankruptcy case.

Former Death Row boss Marion "Suge" Knight filed for bankruptcy on April 7 after running up debts of about R959 million and lawyers are desperately trying to raise money to cover the huge amounts owed by the company.

Afeni Shakur went to a federal bankruptcy court last Friday to seek an injunction on Death Row's plans to release the California Love star's material, arguing that the songs are the property of the rapper's estate and not for the company to profit from.

Her lawyer, Donald David, claims the unreleased tracks should have been given to the estate as per a 1997 agreement with the label upon the hip-hop star's murder in September 1996. - Wenn
