Legends of the defunct Dangerous Darkies will be rolling back the years when they lock horns with their counterparts from Kaizer Chiefs in a friendly match billed for Sunday at KaNyamazane Stadium at 3pm.

George "Majika" Nkosi, former Darkies goalkeeper, said they are looking forward to the game.

"Some of the ex-players didn't have a chance to rub shoulders with the Chiefs legends, so this is their chance. Everyone is gearing up for the game as if it's a competitive match," said Nkosi.

Some of the Darkies legends that will be paraded include Simon "Phiri" Ngomane, Rio "Sell Bones" Mabunda, Rooi Beck and Ebenezer "Zoo" Thabethe.

These players were part of the Darkies squad that gained promotion to the then National Soccer League in 1990. But their stay in the elite league lasted only two seasons.

Since then there has been no other team from the Ehlanzeni region of Mpumalanga in the elite league.

The Chiefs legends will include Donald "Ace" Khuse, Thabang "Chilies" Lebese, Isaac "Shakes" Kungoane, Johannes "Bricks" Mudau and Albert Bwalya.

Lucky Stylianou, coach of the Chiefs legends, said: "Professional football is no longer allowing entertaining football, but the legends still do."
