For 40 years the South African Council of Churches has been in the trenches fighting social wrongs and providing a voice for the most marginalised, whatever their beliefs.

For 40 years the South African Council of Churches has been in the trenches fighting social wrongs and providing a voice for the most marginalised, whatever their beliefs.

When the greatest wrong ever perpetrated in this country rode roughshod over all, the SACC rose to the challenge. It will forever be remembered for its stand against apartheid.

When the regime killed, imprisoned, banned and exiled politicians and other leaders, the SACC stood in the breach and often led the struggle.

Leaders such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Reverend Frank Chikane never compromised.

For this and more we we are proud to salute the SACC and wish it many happy returns on its 40th birthday.
