Thabo Makunyane, the executive mayor of Polokwane municipality, has formed an advisory committee to help the council on matters relating to the 2010 World Cup projects.

"We agreed to start a new committee that will be responsible for advising us on the World Cup issues," said Makunyane yesterday, before the first meeting of the high-powered committee.

Kirsten Nematandani, Safa national executive committee member, has been appointed convenor of the committee.

Other prominent Limpopo people that Makunyane said have been roped into the committee include Safa executive committee member Nakedi Lekota, rising businessman Kedi Mabotja and Thobela FM sports commentator Simon "Kolobe" Ramafalo.

Lekota is also the Safa Limpopo president. Mabotja chairman of the 2010 World Cup Limpopo Black Business Committee that was formed two years ago to ensure local business people benefit from the World Cup.

"We are still in the process of getting more experts to serve on the committee. The initial plan is to get at least 10 people from other sectors like the taxi industry, which will play a vital role during the tournament," said Makunyane.
