Veteran goalkeeper Brian "Spiderman" Baloyi has extended his contract with Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Afzal Khan, Sundowns' executive director, confirmed yesterday that Baloyi has signed on the dotted line for one season. Baloyi's contract extension ends weeks of speculation that the former South African international was heading to Orlando Pirates in the new season.

His future with Sundowns was hanging in the balance last Saturday after they played without a reserve goalkeeper against TP Mazembe of the DRC. Their second reserve goalie, Jackson Mabokgwane, was in Algeria with the Under-23s for the All Africa Games.

At that time, it was reported that Baloyi could not feature in the game as he was locked in negotiations with the team's managers.

"Brian has extended [his contract] for another season. We are naturally delighted with that because Brian is a great goalkeeper with massive international experience," said Khan. "We are now covered with all the players, regarding the issue of contracts. The team is looking forward to the new season."

After an announcement that they were expecting striker Jose Torrealba back last Friday, Khan said the player had not yet arrived in the country.

"To be honest, I don't know when he is expected now. We have no contact with him."

There has been bad blood between Sundowns and Torrealba recently over the alleged renewal of his contract two months ago. While Sundowns insisted that Torrealba had signed the controversial contract, the player and his business manager alleged it was forged.
