The 10th annual Mangaung African Cultural Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.

This year's Macufe, the biggest cultural festival in southern Africa, was made by Bashomi ba Afrika at a media briefing held at Elanga Estate in Bloemfontein.

The festival has come of age and is celebrating 10 years of tourism and cultural captivation . It takes place over 10 days, from September 28 to October 7, in Bloemfontein.

Bashomi ba Afrika is made up of M3 Marketing, June 18 Holdings, Lumule Marketing, Dipela Sports and Entertainment, MK and Associates, and Senzeni Events. It was appointed to stage Macufe 2007 by the Department of Tourism, Environmental and Economic Affairs.

MEC Neo Masithela said the selected consortium had to demonstrate the necessary expertise and capacity to manage an event of this magnitude.

"The successful company had to have skills and expertise to negotiate deals with suppliers within the Free State provincial procurement policy.

"It also has the necessary contacts befitting the stage set by Macufe," he said.

The yearly cultural event attracts thousands of people from all over the country and the people of Free State stand to benefit from the economic spin-offs the occasion brings to the province.

Macufe has been at the heart of South Africa's tourism and culture industries for the past 10 years and has provided a stage for numerous budding local artists to showcase their talents.

Bashomi ba Afrika chairman, Lungile Jan said Macufe would reach its climax with the main festival that is expected to feature prominent artists from the US, Chile, Brazil and other countries.

"We are working tirelessly to bring these artists to Bloemfontein, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. We are still in negotiations and all will be revealed in due course," Jan said.

The Macufe Cup featuring four PSL teams will be headed by Andrew Dipela of Dipela Sports and Entertainment who is also general manager of the PSL.

Events to take place include a traditional festival, pop and rock , hip-hop, kwaito, gospel and reggae festivals, comedy and arts and craf ts .
