A Pietermaritzburg magistrates' court prosecutor appeared in court yesterday on charges related to allegedly removing dockets for payment.

Amos Ngcobo, 38, faces charges of corruption and housebreaking. He was remanded in custody to July 30 for a bail application.

Prosecutor Zubeida Khan objected to the bail application proceeding on July 27 as there were about 20 charges to be investigated. She said the state would oppose bail.

Ngcobo was arrested on Friday.

It is alleged that he broke into offices at the magistrates' court after hours and removed dockets in exchange for payment.

Documents were seized from Ngcobo's home while he was in custody at the weekend. - Sapa
