Philips South Africa, together with Sowetan and several other partners, is setting a trend worth emulating for the betterment of our poorer communities.

It is aptly tagged, Supply Opportunities and Achieve Results (Soar).

Soar involves staff of the company helping to renovate and refurbish public schools in Gauteng and assisting the schools with facilities, equipment and learning and teaching support materials.

Now Soar has extended its corporate social responsibility to include helping community service centres in areas surrounding the schools.

In the latest such venture, Soar helped to spruce up a health facility.

Westbury Clinic, which is situated near Sowetan's Industria, Johannesburg head office was spruced up and painted.

Soar also adopted the clinic's neighbours, namely the Everest and Dowlinglaan primary schools.

l Soar's media partner Sowetan has made Soar a part of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation's portfolio of youth and community development activities.
