Zim Ngqawana, one of South Africa's most respected jazz musicians, has a date with his fans at the new jazz venue Party House, situated at the Dome. It houses the new live jazz concept, Jamming Sundays.
This series is really for the discerning, purist jazz lover and has so far featured some of the best of South African talent live, including UJee Maluleke, Sipho Mabuse, Labantu, Selalelo Selota and Siphokazi.
Sharing the bill on Sunday July 29 with jazz legend Ngqwana is Four Forty, a four-piece jazz band, and rising star Camagu Siyabulela Mabuya.
Three lounges, a complimentary welcome drink and a light meal make the environment all the more inviting.
Many captains of industry and business leaders have discovered all that Jamming Sundays has to offer.
"Jamming Sundays has been a success from day one and continues to rake in the fans of good local music," says Mabutho Kid Sithole, the initiative's spokesman.
Ngqawana is a musician of substance. Though this multi-Sama award-winner had a late start in the music business, only reaching for his first instrument at the age of 21, he quickly showed a natural talent for music.
This is also the man whose first gig was playing at the inauguration of former president Nelson Mandela in 1994.
Before that, Ngqwana made sure he picked up the knowledge he needed and studied for a diploma in jazz, working with his university's ensemble, The Jazzanians, at the same time.
Through the ensemble, Ngqwana was offered various prestigious scholarships abroad.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Ngqwana has been known to mix things up a little and he's built up many small and large combos - breaking away from the conventional quartet/quintet.
