It is true, though sad, that the man who was reported missing by his Diepkloof family last week is dead.
The mystery of his disappearance was solved on Friday when the family identified his body at the Leratong Hospital mortuary near Kagiso.
The hospital had earlier denied ever admitting the man.
On Friday Sowetan published the story about the frustration of the man's family, with ambulance operators saying they had dropped him at Leratong where he had died, and the hospital saying they had no knowledge of the incident.
Khiphezakhe Zitha Nkomo, 28, of Zone 2 Diepkloof, Soweto, went missing in the early hours of Monday morning.
His family searched everywhere for him to no avail.
Nkomo had been shot in the leg and pelted with stones as he apparently tried to flee from robbers.
Leratong Hospital had earlier denied admitting him. The man's brother, Zibuse Nkomo, told Sowetan yesterday that they went to the hospital on Friday morning. They were taken to the mortuary where they found him.
"We first looked for him in the wards but he was not there.
"We also went to the ICU but did not find him there either," Zibuse Nkomo said.
On Thursday a spokesman for Leratong had denied that Nkomo had ever been taken there.
Leratong Hospital communication's officer Francinah Ratsaka said she could not comment because she was not at the office and so insufficiently briefed.
That same day Matron Thando Segota said: "I cannot say whether Nkomo is in the mortuary or not.
"I will call the mortuary tomorrow to try and get to the bottom of this problem. I may be able then to shed more light on the incident."
