SACP secretary-general Blade Nzimande says black economic empowerment has mostly benefited whites and a very few elite blacks.
Speaking at a symposium organised by the Independent Electoral Commission in Pennington, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Friday, Nzimande said thirteen years after attaining liberation, the country still faced the huge challenge of shaping the economy to fulfil the needs of the poorest of the poor.
"We need to guard against the threat of the triumph of money over the will of the people. The economy still remains in white hands and a few elite. This is a challenge to us," he said.
